The Super Bowl is the final game of the NFL season and a major event in the US sporting calendar. It may be less of an occasion in the UK but the popularity of American football is growing on this side of the pond as we’ve seen with the NFL London Games which are held in Britain each October.
But how can you watch the Super Bowl from the comfort of your own home if you live in the UK? Here’s everything you need to know.
When is Super Bowl 2024?
This year’s Super Bowl is on Sunday (February 11) and starts at 11.30pm UK time, which is 6.30pm Eastern Time. If you’re planning on having friends over to watch it with you, you might want to get in plenty of midnight snacks to keep you going as the coverage could last up until 3am.
How long the game continues will depend on how many stoppages there are. The Super Bowl is divided into four 15-minute quarters but an hour of gameplay typically lasts for around three hours.
Where is the Super Bowl being held?
This year’s Super Bowl is being held at the Allegiant Stadium, in Paradise, Nevada, which is the home ground of the Las Vegas Raiders. The game will see the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Can I watch the Super Bowl on television in the UK?
Watching this year’s Super Bowl from the comfort of your La-Z-Boy couldn’t be easier. The game is being shown on ITV1 so you won’t need to worry about subscribing to any paid services. If you are a Sky Sports customer, you can also tune into coverage there.
As well as the game itself, there’s the half time entertainment to look forward to. This year Usher will be performing live at the stadium.
The Super Bowl has become renowned for getting major stars to sing at half-time and the show has become almost as big a thing as the game itself. Previous performers have included Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez.
If you want some all-American food to keep your energy up during the game, you might want to get in snacks like chicken wings, pizza, nachos and potato chips (or as we call them, crisps) with dips.
When can I watch American football in the UK?
If the Super Bowl gives you a taste for watching an NFL game in person, watch out for news of the NFL London Games which are held in the capital every October. Every year, three games are played between major NFL teams in both Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
