Five reasons to choose a fabric sofa

Let’s face it - there are two kinds of people in the world: fabric fans and leather lovers. Which of these is the better option for your sofa is a very personal choice and is likely to become one of life’s great debates.

We all have a preference, even if it’s slight, and given the sofa’s rightful place as the centerpiece of your living room for many years, it’s an important decision that you want to get right.

At La-Z-Boy the majority of our sofas come in both fabric and leather, with plenty of styles to choose from, so you can personalise your suite to your own individual style.

If you’re thinking fabric but still need a little more convincing, here are five reasons you should go for a fabric sofa:

1: The comfort factor

Many people feel that, overall, fabric sofas are cosier than leather because they tend to be softer and warmer. Leather sofas tend to feel firmer, and many people say that leather can feel hot in the summer but cold in the winter, whereas fabric sofas are much more consistent.

2: Wear and tear

These days fabrics are far more resistant than they used to be. And, unlike leather, fabric doesn’t scratch, so will be more resilient to be able to cope with things such as pets’ claws, keys and other objects (but mind out for snags!).  Of course, the better the fabric the better it will withstand wear and tear.

3: Colour and pattern choices

At La-Z-Boy we offer a wide range of both fabrics and leather colourways, with many of our range of sofas available in both fabric and leather.  However, it’s fair to say that your options of fabric choice are much broader, with a selection of patterns to choose from. We find this is often really important to customers who want a sofa to either match their décor, or are looking for something new and different.

4: Easy care

In general, your fabric sofa won’t require as much care and maintenance as a leather product would do. Regular vacuuming and brushing lightly with a soft brush should keep your fabric upholstery in great shape.

Try to avoid spillages, because cleaning your fabric with chemicals could cause fading or damage.

5: Budget

If price is one of the key factors affecting your decision, our fabric sofas tend to be less expensive than our leather sofas. That said, the wide range of products we offer at La-Z-Boy means it’s not so easy to make a straight comparison between leather and fabric optiobs. The great thing about our range of fabrics means we can offer different styles to suit your home and your budget.
